As one of the great contemporary painters and printmakers of our day, Linnea Pergola is known for her works depicting urban whimsy. Her distinctive style, rich with a blending of fantasy and powerful imagery, has earned accolades throughout Europe and the United States.

Born in Los Angeles in 1953, Pergola began experimenting with new mediums and techniques during high school, resulting in a passion for the intricacies of pen and ink. With her artistic talent firmly in place, she then attended the California State University at Northridge where she pursued studies in art history, cultural geography, and history.

Following school, Pergola served with the Peace Corps in the Philippines and consequently traveled throughout Europe and Asia. It was during these travels that her fascination with cityscapes was cultivated.

She wanted to capture the distinctive atmosphere and lifestyle of familiar urban landmarks around the world. But she wanted to transform these subjects into a new reality.

Working with pen and India ink, a very unforgiving medium, Pergola must anticipate the visual effect of every pen and brush stroke. It is her mastery of pen and ink, combined with her use of bold colors and fantasy, which has earned her the reputation of being one of the most talented representational artists today.

Recently, Pergola traveled to the Amazon in Peru. Much like her beloved India ink, the Amazon made an indelible mark on her. Thus her artistic adventures continue. As does the art world’s appreciation for her distinctive style and technique.
