There is no doubt where Guillaume Azoulay fits into the landscape of important artists. As the youngest person ever to have his work accepted into the permanent archives of the Musee du Louvre in Paris, Azoulay has developed a following and reputation within the art world that is second to none. Born in 1949 in Morocco, he was making a living selling his work by the age of thirteen, and his self-taught style and strong representations of fluid motion have been likened to ‘capturing the most vital moments of life.’ His works are found in the most prestigious museums, as well as in the private collections of former President Ronald Reagan, Francois Mitterand, the late Anwar Sadat, King Hassan II of Morocco, Prince Rainier, and Nelson Rockefeller.

In 1983, Azoulay was chosen to create the Official Kentucky Derby Festival Poster. Although by this time Azoulay had already achieved international recognition as a master artist, he was challenged by the thought of creating new images that combined his love of horses with the excitement of one of the world’s greatest races. The resulting “Run For the Roses” was met with the highest acclaim, and his striking representation of horse racing made him an instant household name.

Today, it is with great pleasure that Barry Chappell’s Fine Art Showcase offers Azoulay’s latest releases: “Le Saut,” “Quinze Chevaux” and “Le Grand Cirque.” These limited-edition, vibrantly colored serigraphs utilize a complicated hand-embellished silkscreen and gold leaf process that is true craftsmanship. The results culminate decades of artistic mastery, and are brilliant works that further define Azoulay as “King of the Line”.
